WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO??: VER 0.7

Assalamualaikum w.b.t

Seperti yang dijanjikan pada Ver0.6, I will be posting up about one of my favorite assignment this semester, which was also one of the major subjects, it was labeled with the code of PDT212: CREATIVE N MULTIMEDIA IMAGING. This subject mainly revolves with using computer softwares which is Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Director. and we need to make a flash based slides of any subject relevant. I decided to do about DSLR camera since Im so hyped in finding information about these things.

Softwares that Ive been using for this assingment is

Adobe Photoshop

As we all usually sees in the webs and internet, there are lots of flash based program and we didnt really know how it was made. So after I learned doing this thing, I know it is not easy and it took alot of works and consideration in making one of these. A lot of heavy picture editting, alot of picture snapping and some few sleepless nights trying to finish this assignment on time. How long did it took me? Nearly 2~3 months due. IS it really that long?? YES it is, bcuz first of all u need to design EVERY pages separately via Photoshop and MUST not FLATTEN the images as every bits of button and details are considered moving when transferring them to the Director.

Confused? Maybe some illustrations will make things more clearer.

This is my first page design for the slide. as you all can see that I have used multiple numbers of images and done some editing to them, which was the first step. After finishing and transfer images to Director, first off you must not save as JPEG format or flatten the image as it will be the whole lot if you transfer it directly to Director later. What to do? Save all of those important which stuffs like button or images that you want to make them move in a different file.

Look at the right side bar of your screen where your LAYER window is situated. Notice the EYE icon at every item. you need to click them once so it wont be visible. This is very useful when u want to see a different images that were overlapping or want to save images in separate files. Click at the items/layers that you dont want to include including the background layer.

as you all can see from the image above, I have closed all the layers that I dont want to include which only leaves this ENTER button. after that click on FILE>SAVE AS. Make sure that you are saving in PSD format as it will affect how it appears in Director later. If you save it n JPEG, the button/image will have a white background if you add it in Director later on.

Owh and another quick tip, make sure that you create a new folder for these page so it wont scatter off and messes up your working process.

So the next process is transferring all your files to Director.

Interface of the Micromedia Director. So first of, you need to import all your saved files from the photoshop. So how to do it? Click at FILE>IMPORT. Find your file source and you can multiple choose your files by holding ctrl button while clicking.

Click at ADD first then IMPORT to transfer the files.
Note that you can transfer multiple number of files together in one go.

All the files that have been transfered will be visible at the boxes below the timeline bar. Decide which files to be placed first as the the layer on top will be one at the most behind layer among others. SO as an example I will place the background at the top line after the Canon layer.

So at the display window, the background image will rest behind the canon image as it was the most top layer in the timeline. So that is the brief explaination about the layers in Director.

At the time line bar, you can edit for how long the images will appear, just click and drag the bar for as long as you please. After you have placed all your desired layers and images, it is time to give it a test run by click the play button at the top bar.

The Play button

All the images and layers will be viewed here at the stage window

So I guess that covers up a little brief explaination and a little tutorial of using Macromedia Director. If you guys like me to post up a full tutorial of using Director then comment a request tutorial at this post later. So continue on my story, after 3 months of tiring nights with heavy picture editing and designing, I have finally compiled up to a total of 30 pages with some heavy animations in Director. I had to say that all my hard work paid of and Hopefully Im gonna get an A for this assignment. :D

After finishing all my softcopy stuffs it is on to Hardcopy items. I need to design a DVD cover for this software.

Front View

Back view

I also need to print out my hardcopy of timeline that I made using Adobe Illustrator. Its a must during the presentation as to explain what comes next and what to explain on the current slide.

The timeline board.

So here comes the best part. You must mesti nk tengok my final work rite? and so I had the time to record my Flash with some recording software so that you guys can have a look at it. to bad I cant publish it online cuz I had some errors with my files here. So there you have it.

So what do you guys think? Though Im still far away from being perfect or a Graphic Designer bcuz I still have a lot to learn. Anyways dont forget to rate, and as I said before If u guys want to do some tutorials just request em and I'll see what I can do. Anyways thats all for todays post. Till the next installment doods. Cheers :D

WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO??: VER 0.6

Salam and good day to you all peeps and doods. Oh dear, based on my last post for this section is like way long ago. Deeply sorry for that and to make it up for it today Im gonna tell you guys what I have been doing for my PDT214 which was Packaging Design. Yeap as the Course title said, I have to design my own packaging based on the current marketed packages. It is to train us to develop ideas and quality so that we can create a state of the art packages. Mungkin bagi u guys design packaging is simple as making milo ais kt dapor tu. But sadly it is not. Few consideration that need to be taken before even making that packages. =)

First of, you need to a theme. A theme that fits for your desired product. As an example, a theme in the aspects of colour, Typeface and fonts so that it will blend perfectly with the product. Dont want a pinkish butterfly to be fitted of on a Gents Undergarments boxes dont we? lol. Secondly the boxes it self or the packages. By looking at the boxes ideas may pop up to see fit what design to put on that box. Example if the box was a pyramid kind of shape, you may put a picture that may cover up on the top of the pyramid to create a wonderful eye illusions. Confused? Okay lets get straight to some pictures shall we.

Okay so this is my Packaging design. It was originally based on a Printer Inkjet's Packaging. I convert it to an earphone packaging (nevermind the Skullcandy. lol) So okay u guys mesti tertanya-tanya why Skullcandy? Lol it was a fake rebadging but it was for educational purpose so I wont get sued, am I? =P. Anyways, yeah this is my final product. How did I design this thing? By using a software from Adobe, the Adobe Illustrator.

Yeah you might have heard of Adobe Photoshop aite but that was mainly for Heavy picture editing and was not meant for Designing anyways. On the other hand Illustrator was made for designing stuffs like packages, and even illustrations of pictures, magazine and etc. Basicly it is not that hard using illustrator if u have been familiar with photoshop because the functions are not so far away from what photoshop has in store.

a little snapshot from the adobe illustrator. Its pretty much complicated as photoshop is. I had to photoscan the actuall package via scanner and upload to pc. Then I retrace back the outline of the package by using pen tool from the software. pretty much straight forward isnt it. Well if u think that way here comes the best part. Filling in the design. As u can see from the picture, placing the correct placement for each of the contents are crucial. The text and design has to be in the right order, and yes I know mine wasnt that much of a thing to brag about but roughly the fundamentals are basicly about this way.

After dah siap semua baru lah di print ke atas kertas art card 280gsm. Why art card? well to hold it off ofcourse, we dont want to print it out on a plain A4 paper with low gsm dont we. (Okay it is getting annoying isnt it? lol ) Anyways my final product print out looks like this.

Open Layout

Final product

Well basicly and roughly the process are most likely this way, where there are more in-depth details actually but I'll skip that part where it was care less. Anyways this is one of my MANY projects these semester. I will add up soon on my next installment. Anyways till the post doods. Cheers =D

So here it is, Tadaah. =D

Owh sebelum tu, aku akan volume kan siri ni mengunakan header diatas, tapi masih lagi under tajuk besar What Does An Art Student DO the Series bagi memudahkan korang untuk browse antara tajuk ke tajuk.

Apa yang aku tulis kt bawah ni semuanya dari ayat aku sendiri, x percaya? up to u lah nk percaya ke x nk tapi yang penting aku ikhlas menulis nk membantu. So dekat sejam gak aku mengarang ayat2 nih, lama dh tak menulis penulisan dalam bahasa melayu. sori kalau ade tersilap tatabahase ke or whatsoeverlah. So rujukan yang aku guna semestinya dari YouTube dan juga Buku Manual DSRL. Aku xde la tiru bulat2, ringkasan tu ade la kot. So anyways, here it goes

WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO??: VER 0.5

Yep as promised on the last post, I promised to show u guys on the topic "SHAPE" which has something to do with my last post topic which was "FORM". These two had a close relationship that makes them one in terms of art. So in this topic I was told to do a shape, any shape in the small size on a mounting board, and we had to do alot of em. And why? Because we had to do a 3 Dimensional Shape from these shapes that we have made and cut from the mounting board.

So the trick is we had to combine/compile/joint all those shapes together to form some kind of a shape or anything that looks awesome. And what I had in mind? A super awesome dragon dinosaur like structure. Well it wasnt easy for sure how to construct together all those shapes. I had pick a triangle shape which was for me perfect for making a dragon shaped structure. Owh Im so sorry my paper works for this assignment was somewhere on my storage room which I was too lazy to search for it. But as soon as Ive got the snap shots I will update this post. Only had the finalized picture.

Okay so the tools and items that I used?

WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO??: VER 0.4

Hello and welcome again on my next installment of "What Does An Art Student DO? the series". As I mention before on the VER 0.3, I promised u to post on how to draw a perspective drawings didnt I? But since my perspective drawing artwork is somewhere on my storage room atm so it will take time for me to search for it. SO, as for the time being I will show you guys what I did on my past assignment which is was also my final project for FND101 VISUAL RESEARCH. SO from this post and forth I will be posting my past artworks (my 1st semester artworks) up until my current one so I wont miss a single piece of my work.

So as for todays post, I will be showing u guys one of my greatest masterpiece and one of my personal favorite too, I call it my self "THE SORROW" =D

haha, so u guys must be wondering how did I make this awesome thing aite?? Hmm it is simple actually and you guys wont believe if I said that this thing is actually made out from a GREEN FOAM that we usually use for placing man made flowers.

YEah this piece of green thinggy is what it made of, even my self thinks it was impossible at first but then again in the world of arts, creativity could create many possibilities.

HOW DOES THE PRINTING PROCESS WORKS?? PART 2

Seperti yang dijanji dalam post yang lepas, hari ni aku akan sambung balik cerita pasal proses pencetakan ni. Bagi yang baru terbaca post ni and tak tau what Im talking about you may refer to this post first.

SOme of u may think, kenapa aku beriya-iya sangat nk cerita pasal benda ni. Hmmm well maybe aku rasa benda ni sangat interesting and aku x rasa kebanyakan orang2 tau pasal proses ni berlaku mcm mne. Konsep aku tunjuk ni di guna pakai oleh kebanyakkan kilang pencetakan x kira lah di kilang cetak majalah, cetak buku, surat khabar, cetak bungkusan makanan, brochur, dll. Cetakan konvensional ni x sama seperti yg korang nmpak kt everyday printing shop kt kedai tepi jalan kt taman atau bandar korang sebab mostly they all use Digital Printing process. MEANS a direct print out from PC to the printing unit without the help of any film and Plate.

HOW DOES THE PRINTING PROCESS WORKS??

Salam2 kepada teman2 semua, peehhhh lama gila dh aku x update blog. tgh time2 tengah sem mesti assignment melambak, test banyak nk mati n pressure final nk dekat. tula time2 awal sem enjoy sakan, now terima la penawar nye. bala smua ni, bala, bala...ahaha, okay so anyways aku nk berkongsi sikit perihal subjek which I think sgt interesting, PDT160 Basic OffsetLithography. Dalam kebanyakkan industri pencetakan kt mana2 kilang or whatsover kt Malaysia ni mostly gunakn method OffsetLithography. So okay korang mesti dh meraban merapu, basic offlithokewhhaat??! so dont worry aku akan terangkan briefly ape benda tu. Dalam printing process ade 4 pecahan/ jenis print process, which is Offset, Gravure, screen printing, and Letterpress/flexography.

Aku x mau peningkan pale otak korang dgn memende pelik ni so aku akan skip bende2 yg x patot. So dalam post ni aku terangkan bahagian OffsetLithography since aku baru blaja yg tu. in every pecahan2 yg aku dh listkan ade 3 basic workflow which is PREPRESS-PRESS-POSTPRESS. kerja2 PREPRESS melibatkan kerja2 sebelum pencetakan bermula dr scrap, finished design, to film and plate. Selalu nya design2 akan di buat melalui software adobe, Photoshop,inDesign, illustrator and etc.

Contoh design majalah yg dh siap disusun

Bila Design2 tu dh siap, contoh simple la..majalah, every muka surat akan disusun mengikut susunan. and bila dh disusun baru lah image di transfer ke film. Owh before aku teruskan (banyak betui details nye) dalam process plate making, there are two method which is CTF(Computer To Film) and CTP(Computer To Plate). CTF is somewhat I simplify as the oldschool way sbb leceh dimana image kena transfer ke film, dh tu kena stripping, and film tu pulak kne dedahkan cahaya ke plate where the images will be trasfered to the plate due to the strong source of light.

Film yg dh siap dicetak

tak sama pulak bg method CTP where the image is trasferred directly( terus menerus) ke atas plate. method ni baru sbb pencetak CTP baru wujud in these few recent years. tapi untuk subjek yg ni aku kena study the CTF way.

Markas Unit Percetakan UiTM =D

Okay so last week me and my fellow frens kena wat research untuk process Plate making the CTP and CTF as I metioned earlier. So step pertama skali bermula dengan design. untuk contoh mudah aku amek Notepad kecik, sebab untuk projek semester ni aku kena buat notepad. Aku wat simple design jer, malas nk rosak fikiran wat benda susah2.

Tadaahh..cantik x design aku? =D(wat pakai adobe Illustrator)

Oleh kerana aku fanatic game Monster Hunter aku wat design logo Jinouga. So step seterusnya ialah IMPOSITION. seperti aku dh terangkan kat atas susunan mengikut mukasurat(kalau ada) after susunan dh dibuat image tadi di transferkan ke film, OUTPUTTING.

Mesin Outpputing

So after dh cetak ke film, process seterusnya ialah Plate exposure dimana film yg dh dicetak tadi di lekat kn ke atas plate kosong dan di expose ke cahaya sinar UV terang. image yg berada di atas film td akan melekat ke plate kosong td.

Mesin Film Exposure

Bila dh di expose plate tu x leh di dedahkan dgn any other light source sbb plate tu sgt sensitive
takot2 rosak plate nyeh.

Contoh plate yg dh siap di transfer image dr film.(abaikan mamat x hensem tu)

So ape step seterusnya? that will have to wait for my next incoming installment of HOW DOES PRINTING PROCESS WORKS part 2. lol. bukan x mo bg tau, tp up until now kitorang baru sampai step ni so kalau nk citer n explain sampai habis process boleh jer tp takder bukti x best la kan. anyways sorry la kalau explaination aku sucks gila, sumpah aku tak pandai nk write tp aku tgh balaja la sikit2. So till the next post doods, komen la pape kalau de yg tak paham =D

WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO??: VER 0.3

MOshi2 =D Okay so on todays post aku akan cerita kt korang ape yg aku belajar kt kelas FND 150 Drawing last week which I think sangat2 interesting. Measuring using only our naked eye and pencil alone. First2 agak tension jugak sbb benda ni kena betul accurate and once u have picked a spot x leh move even a bit sbb ukuran akan lari.

So the trick is kena pejam one eye and stare at the object with the pencil as the measurer.

Benda ni kena banyak bersabar sbb needs alot of numerous of exercise baru menjadi. and benda ni is actually a basic and the fundamentals. so bayangkan la, even just basic pn agak pecah kpala nk wat. =(

Nampak x kotak merah dgn oren tu? Yup kne ukur that boxie. :D

Mengukur dgn penuh ketekunan xD

SO after banyak kali try and error moment and kertas dh banyak kali tukar. nie la hasil yg aku dpt walaupun still senget benget. =(

Next week kitorang akan belajar melukis bangunan dgn mengunakan teknik measurement nie. So I will update my post with new pictures and I will explain a bit to u guys how to draw using this technique. =D till the next post ;)

WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO??: VER 0.2

Assalamualaikum wbt.

Hey2, salam sejahtera kepada doods2 sekalian and thanx for visiting my bloggy. Anyways in todays post aku akan ceritakan perihal assignment drawing aku yg paling latest, tajuk untuk assignment ni ialah STRUCTURAL LINES and VALUE STUDIES dimana kitorang kena study bentuk2 3D dan juga ruang2 yg terdapat pada sesebuah objek. So these are some of the final skecthes that I have submited and which I think is quite good. :D

(3D Structural Drawings)

(3D Structural Drawings)

(Single Subject Analytical Drawing)
(Multiple Subject Analytical Drawing)

(Multiple Subject Analytical Drawing)

Okay so these 5 drawings, Id say it was not easy to make okay. Ive spent more like 3 hours per drawing so imagine how many hours and effort I have poured at each drawings T__T huhu. anyways do feel free to leave a comment or so. I will post some more of my artworks later. Til the next post doods :D

WHAT DOES AN ART STUDENT DO?

Assalamualaikum wbt.

Hey2 doods, yeah finally I have made to my second post and this one is a hell of a achievement for me lol. Anyways today aku nk story2 kat korang pasal course aku, Art and Design. Yep, maybe some of you guys akan berkata, "eleh, art boleh pegi mane jer, ape keje leh dpt dari art nie?? aku blaja lukis sendiri pn boleh tak yah sampai masuk U nk blaja lukis2, ape yg korang lukis nie??! x paham aku, eh adik aku leh lukis lg lawa la, " opps cukup sampai disini, byk lagi sebenarnye tapi hati ni panas gak nk taip so biar smpai kt sini. Senang citer toksah la nk memperkecil2 kn orang lain sedangkn diri sendiri pn x brapa nk betul. Okay so move on to our story, Yes, we as an art student always been looked down by everyone but remember that everything in life is art related. Even dalam islam pn ade history art dia tersendiri which I found myself very interesting and mind blowing. (lol sem ni byk belajar sejarah art history, so byk tgk artwork2 zaman dulu yg gmbar pelik2 :P)

Okay, so I move on deeper on the details. Dalam fakulti art and design ade banyak department/branches/gugusan/pecahan and all that. There 9 atm which is,

1.Printing Technology
2.Fine Art
3Photography & Digital Imaging
4.Fashion Design
5.Ceramics
6.Industrial Design
7.Fine Metal Design
8.Textile Design
9.Graphic Design and Digital Media

Every department has their own special traits and specialty. and as what I heard, course yg mcm goreng pisang panas (sebab ramai gile yg mohon and jumlah student nye paling ramai) ade 2 which is Photography and Graphic Design, hmm paham2 jela, skrgkn tgh hot permintaan utk graphic and CGI designers, Upin dan Ipin and all that bla2.. Okay so aku jatuhnye didalam group no 1 tu, Printing Technology. Kalau korang dh habis fikir "printing?? wat pe je?" then biar aku explain, yes nampak and dengar pn macam kos ntah pape je but you all kne tau we are living in the world where printing is applied everywhere. without printing there is no Books, No box packaging, NO paper to write on or Notepads, NO Kad Jemputan Kawin,NO NEWSPAPER, NO MONEY, dan paling penting no majalah hiburan (Gempak,E-Pop,Kreko,E-Ring and all that). What life could be so boring without magazines to read. XDD. So dh tau betapa penting nya we/us as a printing student? :D

Actually there are no big difference among us art students. Every courses are quite similar and the sylibus are not that far away from what we have in printing. and our printing course sylibus had a drastic changes during our batch. Changes are made and from what I have seen, we printing students are redefined to be more versetile, Graphic/Photography/Printing/Fine Art in one course. We learn drawings, we learn graphics in design and Photoshop, We learn photography and photo editing. so let say we can adapt in any situations :D

So here are some of my sample art works during my first semester.

(Mock up pakai Wire Besi)
(Mock up and Final Project,Subject matter Cili bengala)
Port Folio untuk projek
(Analatytical Drawing)
(Shape and 3D from, made this by using only mounting board)

(Final Project and Mock up)
(Kelas Drawing, Topic Phsycomotor)

Ade banyak lagi gambar2 artwork aku tapi rase nye cukup la sebagai bukti contoh artwork aku untuk post nie. Kalau korang nk tengok lagi artwork2 aku yg hot2 rajin2 la check blog saya ye. Anyways till the next post doods, Cheers :D
